   QUTUB SHAHI TOMBS

The tombs erected in memory of the departed kings of Golconda are magnificent monuments that have stood the test of time and the vagaries of nature. They stand a kilometer north of Golconda Fort's Banjara Darwaza. These imposing marvels of architectural excellence stand as solemn reminders of the grandeur and glory of Golconda and the kings who are buried here.

The tombs form a large and close group standing on a raised plateau. These tombs and other monuments of the Qutb Shahi kings mark a unique architectural style which is a mixture quadrangular rising 9 to 15 metres above the terrace.

 *   TANK BUND

 Hyderabad's most popular promenade, the Tank Bund dams the Hussain Sagar lake. The picturesque lake uniting the twincities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad like a wedding ring. It is lined with 33 statues of famous personalities who have done their motherland proud.Every Sunday cultural programmes are conducted by the Department of culture in the evenings and admission is free for the public.

In the midst of the lake on the "Rock of Gibralter" rises the statue of the Buddha like a colossus. It is the largest monolithic statue (carved out of a single rock) measuring 18 metres in height and an awesome 350 tonnes. Today people across the world flock here to witness and pay homage to this marvelous colossus standing in all its glory and be regaled of it over and over.This lake is the venue of many national and international water sporting events.

Beside this lake is the "Lumbini Park" developed with musical fountains. On the other side of this lake is the Necklace Road, that twinkles like a necklace. Dotting the lake on all sides are parks shimmering with greenery and bustling with life under the glitter and glory of city lights.
